Safe Halloween 2007

Summer isn't even over and the planning begins for the biggest annual event at the Gazebo. This will be the seventh consecutive year that Hazelwood Initiative has provided the youth of the Greater Hazelwood Community with safe treats.

As with every year, we call out to all of the community, businesses and residents, to help in this very successful event. Over the years we have supplied approximately 400 children with shiny mylar bags filled with goodies. Some of the funding sources have become sparse and we must rely more on contributions, raffles, and/or bake sales.

Please reach deep into your pockets and help us make certain that all the children have at least a small bag of safe treats that parents can be confident letting their children enjoy. Please send donations to the Hazelwood

Initiative office or you may make your donation in person at the next HI monthly meeting (September 11th). As you may know, planning for this event includes more than just securing goodies for the bags. We also need help with bag packing, decorating the gazebo and grounds to create a festive environment, costumed adults for distribution of the bags, as well as any and all neighbors who simply wish to socialize with other neighbors. Contact Joan McLaughlin via the HI office at 412.421.7234 on or before September 4th if you
wish to assist our resident witch, Lisa, in creating a true Halloween atmosphere.
The following groups are always helpful and welcome!
• block club members;
• high school students in various arts programs or in need of volunteer hours;
• church group members;
• anyone who loves to go to costume parties;
• those who don’t have children but love to help, etc. There is no limit as to who can help.
Remember, too, that many residents have found this to be the safest way to provide treats for our neighborhood children. Single senior residents do not have to worry about opening their doors, many join in the activities at the Gazebo, and parents don’t have to fear the contents of our sealed, recognizable bags.

HERE’S THE DATE FOR YOUR CALENDAR:
