Composting Workshop and Free Composting Bins Offered to Hazelwood Residents

In an effort to reduce the solid waste stream, the Pennsylvania Resources Council and the City of Pittsburgh have initiated a city-wide backyard composting project. Funding for this project is provided by a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. The overall goals of the project are to educate city residents about backyard composting, and to establish ordinances which allow for backyard composting within the city.
As part of the project, the Pennsylvania Resources Council will be offering a composting workshop to Hazelwood residents on Thursday, April 26th, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Hazelwood Car Barn. The workshop will cover setting up a compost pile, what to and not to compost, maintaining a compost pile and will conclude with free bin distribution. If you are interested in attending this workshop, or would like more information, please call Chris Walters at 412-431-4449 ext.207.
